The price tags of Paris hotels may make you think that Paris is only for the wealthy, but rest assured – it’s not! There many great places to stay in Paris that are inexpensive (cheap!), centrally located, and offer the “feel” of Paris. I’ve scoured many posts, articles, friends, and my own many trips to Paris to recommend what I consider the best cheap places to stay in Paris. Plus, they are in wonderful neighborhoods where you can get an idea of how locals live in Paris. Here are my recommendations.
Hostel Les Piaules
Hostels are a great and cheap alternative for places to stay – often times though, they may feel overrun with study abroad students who focus more on where to find a place to drink than experience the culture. Les Piaules is a wonderful hostel that offers dorm beds for the more social and private rooms for those craving privacy. They are located in the heart of Belleville – Paris’ tres hip neighborhood. It’s near the Pere Lachaise cemetery and close to the Metro. Prices* range from $60 USD to $300 USD.

Hotel Elysees Flaubert
This wonderful hotel in the 17th Arrondissement means that you’ll have a comfortable stay in a lively Paris neighborhood. The hotel is comfortable and modern – and even comes with a free breakfast! You’re close the the Arc de Triomphe, which is the starting point for an exciting and shopper’s fantasy stroll down Champs Elysees. Prices* range from $150 – 300 USD.
Hôtel L’Echiquier Opéra Paris
This hotel is run by Sofitel, so you know it’s going to be nice. This beautiful hotel mixes classic Parisian decor with modern amenities like a gym, airport shuttle, and free wifi. The Hotel L’Echiquier Opera Paris is located in one of the most exciting and historically interesting neighborhoods in Paris -the 10th Arrondissement. Plus, staying in the 10th also means you’re close to Sacre Coeur, Montmartre, and the canals. Prices range from $150 – 350 USD.
Hotel Crayon Rouge
The major sights in Paris are located near the center, what’s known as “the heart of Paris.” Unfortunately, the hotels around the center are quite expensive and tend to be major chains. The Hotel Crayon Rouge – yes, the Hotel Red Crayon in English – is funky, comfortable, and right in the heart of it all. You’re close to the great museums of the world – The Louvre, the Centre d’ Pompidou, and Musee de l’Orangerie (home of Monet’s murals). Prices* range from $150-300.

Rent an Apartment
I also really like Airbnb.com for cheap places to stay. I’ve found the inventory and experience varies depending on what you like and need. I can recommend service wholeheartedly, but I also love the customer service and amenities of hotels. (i.e. you don’t have to coordinate getting a key)
